VW Polo GT TDI – Wolf Moto P.O.W.E.R stage 3 package.

We wanted to develop a turbo upgrade package for our VW 1.6/1.5 TDI customers. So we developed a kit in-house. As always, we started our build by replacing all filters, timing belt, fresh synthetic Oil by AMSOIL and a fresh fuel filter.

Turbo upgrade selection for Stage 2+/ Stage 3 build

Started our turbo selection process by comparing a few VAG turbochargers and its air flow rating at different boost levels and RPM. We found a good match with Borg Warner and Garrett turbochargers. Selected two different turbo sizes that we felt would be a good match for our Stage 2+ and Stage 3 builds.  The BV40 seemed like a good turbo, as does the GT1549.  The BV40 turbo would spool real quick, but it may choke at high revs/ high boost! BV40 has a relatively restrictive hot side and could cause high EGT's while on high boost. The GT1549 on the other hand would have a little more lag compared to BV40, yet be responsive enough to build boost quickly.  These turbos have different sizes and trims of the compressor wheel and turbine wheel. The larger trims support higher flow.

Our good friends at Honeywell (Garrett INDIA aftermarket turbocharger division) were very helpful throughout our build. They proactively responded to our tech queries regarding compressor graphs, Aspect Ratio and other technical info and also hand delivered our Garrett turbo!!.
